NEWTON Daughter of Garfield’s Navy Secretary Died at Home Here Tuesday. Funeral services for IL.rs. Cornella Ridgely Hunt Newton, for many years active in social circles in this city, who died at her residence, 1717 Twentieth street, Tuesday, were conducted in the Church of the Epiphany today at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in Paterson, N. J. Mrs. Newton's death was due to pneumonia. Mrs. Newton, who was 69 years old, was the widow of Dr. William K. New- ton of Paterson, N. J, and was the daughter of the late Willlam H. Hunt, who was Secretary of the Navy du!lng President Garfield's administration an later served as Ambassador to Russia. He died in Russia while serving as Am- bassador. ‘Widely known in this city, Mrs. New- ton was prominent in social circles here as a young woman. Later she lived in Paterson, N. J., for some years. She subsequently returned here and made her home following her husband’s death. She is survived by three brothers, Rear Admiral Livingston Hunt, U.S.N., retired, of Newport, R. 1.; Judge Wil- liam Hunt of San Francisco and Thom- as Hunt of Ridgely, the Tivoli on Hud~ son, N. Y. Another brother was the late Gaillard Hunt.of this city. Mrs. Newton was a member of the Soclety of Colonial Dames and of the Church of the Epiphany. Deaths Reported.
