Representative Bloom will join his family abroad after the close of €S8, Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Ewing of New York announce the enngaum of their daughter, Miss Ellen x Ewing, to Mr. Thomas Archibald Stone, second secretary of the Canadian legation. ‘The news is of considerable int in Washington as Mr. Stone is one of the distinguished and charming mem- bers of the younger diplomatic contin- gent and as Miss Ewing's family has a Washington background. Mr. Ewing was appointed commissioner of patents by | President Wilson and during his serv- fce in this post he and his family oc- cupled the “old Slidell mansion,” which stood between Corcoran House and the home of Henry Adams lfi:&lntng John Hay's residence. All of these historic mansions were razed to make way for the United States Chamber of Com- merce Building and the Hay-Adams House, but while Mr. and Mrs. Ewing were residents of Washington their home was the scene of much hospitality. Miss Ewing was presented to soclety in New York after left Washington, but she has been & frequent visitor here as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Newbold Noyes, Miss Ewing is a graduate of Dobbs Ferry and later attended Smith College. She is a member of the Colony Club. Mr. Stone is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Stone of Chatham, Ontario, Canada. He was graduated from To- ronto University in 192¢, and afterward took a degree from L'Ecole des Sciences Politiques in Paris.
