FINANCIAL. TRANSACTIONS ON THE NEW YORK CURB MARKET CURB SHARES SINK T0 LOWER LEVELS Market Hit by Storm of Sell- ing—Few Issues Move Against Trend. BY JOHN A CRONE. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star, NEW YORK, April 29 —~Curb market 8tocks slumped heavily during the first hour today on liquidation necessitated by the recent impairment of margin ac- counts. When this phase had passed there was a rally of sorts, but with few exceptions it did not serve to reverse | the trend. Through most of the session the list fluctuated irregularly, with neither side ®aining any notable success. Oil stocks, which stood out best against the selling on Monday, gave wa; at the start today and rallied later wi the rest. But only a few of them made any real headway. Humble Oil, Stand ard of Kentucky, Vacuum, Gulf Ofl ot Pennsylvania, Indian Territory Illumi- nating “A” and Reiter-Foster advanced. Gulf Oil was the most active on a 2- point gain. Cities Service opened with & 17,500-share lot down nearly a point. Part of this loss was retraced. Among the public utilities, American Superpower first dipped, recovered somewhat and then lost part of the gain. Electric Bond & Share was equally as fickle, losing nearly 2 points at the opening, only to regain the lost ground. Brazilian Traction countered with a point gain the bearish news contained in the announcement of the breaking up of the international pool. American Gas & Electric, Commonwealth Edison, Eastern States Power “B,” Northern States Power “A” and United Light & Power “A” all made small improve- ments. The most active losers were American Cities Power & Light, Ameri- can Commonwealth, American & For- eign Power, Central States Electric, Electric _Shareholdings and Niagara- ‘Hudson Power.
