In recent months two projects on the Lower Amazon, both in the state of Para, have been taken up by Japanese colonizers. At the same time, in this the largest and least developed state agriculturally, two concessions were granted to Japanese and one to Poles. ‘The largest of these is a grant by the Amazonas government to Kiuroku Awasu of 2,500,000 acres to be paid for within 50 years, whereon 10,000 Japa- nese families will be settled.
