This tower remained until 1861, when it was destroyed by a disastrous storm that did much damage in all parts of England. The thirteenth century saw the erec- tion of the Lady Chapel, mostly the work of Bishop Gilbert de Sancto Leo- fardo, and in 1330 Bishop John of Langdon added the great window of the south transept.
