For Real Smart Furniture | The present building which houses the Breokland School, Tenth and Mon- Toe streets northeast, is unfit to be used | as a school, Mrs. R. L. Hoagland of the | Brookland Farenf-Teacher Association declared last night before the citizens’ associations of that section in the Ma- sonic Temple. Twelfth and Monroe reets northeast. In remarks made by various members of the association, preceding & resolu- tion requesting a new building, it was pointed out that part of the present structure is more than 40 years old. Two other parts have been added at 10-year intervals since that time, but the plumbing is bad and there is no cellar under half of the building. Other defects were also mentioned. A copy of the resolution which asked for the new house, to be built on the present location of the school, was to be sent to the District Commissioners s | well as the school bon:d. Bunker Hil' Park, which a short time ago0 was added to the Capital system, should be immediately improved and made to look like a park. It was pointed out by Frederick Barnes, in a resolution subsequently passed, that | comparatively no improvements have been made. * The resolution requested {action from the Capital Park and Planning Commission. With a new playground and school to| {be soon finished at Eighteenth and | | Quincy streets northeast, the associa- | tion declared that, as there are no in- tersecting street between Eighteenth and Twelfth streets. children living in | the vicinity of the latter will have no direct connection with the school. Lee Wilson suggested a resolution, which was passed, requesting the Commis- sioners to cut an intersecting thoroug fare through to the school. This new street would go through the grounds of | the Franciscan Monastery. Wilson said | that he believed the monastery authori- } ties would allow this plan. The group voted that A. P. E.
