B—2 G. U. PROPOSES BUILDING PROGRAM Four New Structures Willj Form Quadrangle on Ath- | letic Field Site. Georgetown University steadily 1s | carrying forward its program of expan- | sion from year to year. With building expenditures aproxi- | mating $2,500,000 within the last three | years, the university is about to launch | another program which will eventually cost $2,500,000. Work is scheduled to | begin February 15 on the first of four | proposed_college buildings to form a new quadrangle on the site of the pres- ent athletic fleld. This first structure, | a five-story stone dormitory, is esti- | mated to cost $600,000 and will be | rushed to completion. Makes Progress Each Year. Starting its new building program three years ago with erection of a large dormitory as an extension of the old quadrangle, Georgetown University has gone forward each year, adding to its | group of buildings. In addition to ex- ten: building operations, the univer- 5o acquired in this period one alf city blocks of land adjoining its campus wall across the street from the Georgetown University Hospital. Announcement of the new dormitory project comes at a time when the uni- versity is making preparations to oc- cupy on February 1 its medical-dental school building on Reservoir road, which cost $1.000,000. From an arch tectural as well as a development vie point, this large building is an im- portant adjunct to the section adjacent to the Glover-Rock Creek parkway now being developed by the District. Georgetown's more recent building activities include also a large addition to its hospital, one of the finest equip- ped maternity sections in the East; an REAL BSTATE. Another bullding activity connected with the university was the construc- tion of a large wing to the Georgetown Preparatory School within the past year at Garrett Park, Md. With the com- pletion of the medical-dental building on Reservoir road, work is to start soon in putting its extensive campus in shape. ‘The projected quadrangle at the col- lege is the largest project to be under- taken by the university in many years. As outlined by President W. Coleman Nevils, the quadrangle is to constitute, in addition to the dormitory building, a recitation hall and two science build- ings. The recitation hall is expected to cost approximately $500,000 and when erected will be on the north end of the athletic field. An expenditure of $1,360,000 is estimated to carry out the plans for the science buildings. Approxi- mately 2,000 tons of this gray granite ‘will be used for the exterior. ‘With a length of 257 feet on the west side of the athletic field and a width of 48 feet, the dormitory will contain 180 single rooms, of which 142 will | be equipped with private baths.
