BY F. H. RICHARDSON. Speclal Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, December 26.—Bonds made some progress in a dull trading session today. While there was a cer- tain amount of tax selling, it was not heavy enough to carry the list lower against the buying induced by the low levels that some bonds have reached. There were a few instances where the price decline in an issue has already been very heavy, but the tax selling carried it still lower. A drop of 15 points in Fisk 5,s on the Curb Ex- change and a drop of over 2 points in the 8 per cents of the same company were both attributed to this factor. Both issues are selling at their low | levels for the year. Bankers who put jout the 51is declare that the interest due on January 1 will be paid. However, the list generally was higher, the greater activity being shown in the foreign department, where re- ports of a $60,000,000 credit being arranged for the Sao Paulo Coffee In- stitute lent support to South American issues, Union Pacific first 5s were a point higher in the prime list and smaller gains were made by Baltimore & Ohio first 4s, St. Louis-San Francisco “A” 4s and Philadelphia Co. 5s. Speculative types of bonds were quiet. Cuba Cane Sugar 7s were 2 points higher. Pathe 7s were a point higher and more than 10 above their low level of the year. Junicr rail issues were strong, including Chicago & Eastern Illincis 5s, Erie General lien 4s and refunding 5s, St. Louis-San Francisco 41is, Rock Island 41is and Boston & Maine 5s. Tractions and olls were un- changed. Those bonds carrying a con- vertible privilege or stock warrants were higher with a strong stock market. In the foreigns the widest gains were made by Argentine 6s (September, 1960), Chile 6s (1960), Bolivia 8s, Bra- zil descriptions and Japanese and Ital- ian bonds. SALES. Capital Traction Co.—5 at 75. MARKET iDemand for Poultry Confined Almost Exclusively to Hotel Trade. There were not many retailers in evi- dence about the wholesale market dis- trict this morning, consumers having put in such hegvy supplies for Christ- mas that demands today were reduced to a minimum. Cleaning up of supplies of turkeys be- fore the closing of the Christmas mar- ket proved highly satisfactory to poultry dealers. Dealers had some reserve stock to hold for today's business, how- ever, but the demand this morning was as light as had been anticipated. Few barrels of turkeys, reached the local market by express from distant places, coming in such good condition that they will hold over for the New Year market trade. This morning’s slow demand for tur- keys.and other poultry was registered chiefly for hotel and restaurant trade. It was difficult for dealers to quote prices during the early morning hours, realizing that later receipts would have an important bearing upon the market. Turkey Prices. Live turkeys were quoted around 30 and 32 cents, while dressed stock was offered at prices ranging from 32 for old toms to 40 cents for top quality dressed stock. Chicken prices also were about the same as prices quoted Tues- day. “There is no market,” was the com- ment of a dealer in marine products this morning. “Receipts are light,” he added, “and the demand is lighter. It's just as well that so small quantities of fish are be- ing received.” Dealers are displaying an interest in the question of receipts of oysters for the Friday and week end trade, receipts the past few days having been just about equal to the demand. “Oystermen will take advantage of the Christmas holiday season,” re- marked a dealer, “and the cold weather probably will mean that many vacations will be prolonged.” Selects this morning were quoted at $2.60 a gallon, standards selling at $2.35. Barrel and bushel stock sold at a wide range of prices, size and quaiity being the determining factors. Green shrimp, received from the South, were plentiful at 30 cents a pound, the cooked shrimp selling at 60 cents. Scallops were offered at $4¢ a gallon and lobsters at 60 cents a pound. Dealers also had supplies of various va- rieties of fish to offer the trade, fish from nearby waters being scarce and not especially attractive, There was almost a complete deser- tion of the farmers’ line this morning, hundreds of Christmas trees and other greens left over from the holiday trade being about the only thing in evidence. Commission merchants had their ac~ customed attractive supplies of fruits and vegetables to offer the retail trade. Business was. not very brisk, however, although some retailers who cleaned out supplies Tuesday were looking for what was needed for their trade today. Lima beans, some from Mexico, re- ceived in splendid condition, sold from $5 to $6.50 a hamper; peas from Mex- ico selling around $5 a hamper, the price being considered by dealers as cheap. String beans were offered at K:lc?s ranging from $150 to $3 a mper. Today's Wholesale Prices—Jobbers’ Prices Slightly Higher. Butter—One-pound prints, 41%,a42Y%; tub, 40%,a41%; store-packed, 30a32.
