C., December 26. —A farmer’s wife and six children lay dead today, all the victims of a hus- band and father who had been kind to them until Christmas day, when he be- came insane. After slaying them he &hot himself to death with a shotgun. e dead: Charles D. Lawson, 43, well-to-do farmer; his wife, 38, and six of their children—Marie, 17; Carrie, 14; Mari- belle, 10; James, 7; Raymond, 5, and Mary Lou, 5 months. The bodies of the mother and chil- dren, shot or beaien to death, were found yesterday afternoon in the blood- stained Lawson home and a tobacco barn on the place. The hands of every one of them were folded across their breasts, their heads pillowel and their eyes closed. The father had carefully laid them out for burial. Lying by a pathway in a patch of ‘woods a half mile away was the of the farmer. A shotgun was nearby and in his pocket was a crumpled piece of paper upon which was scrawled: “Blame nobody but 1" coroner’s jury found that Lawson acted in a fit of insanity. Arthur Lawson, 19-year-old son, is the only member of the family who re- mains alive. He was visiting an uncle near Germantown when his father wiped out the rest of the family.
