20 % CARNIVAL PROVIDES s B FUN FOR ALL AGES Annual Event to Be Held at Southeast Community Cen- ter Tomorrow Night. A community carnival. in which resi- dents of the southeast and many other sections of the city will join in a night of merriment, will be held at the Southeast Commiunity Center, - Hine Junior High School Building, Sevenih and C streets southeast, from 7:30 to 11:30 o'clock tomorrow night. It will be the fourth annual carnival of the Southeast Community Center and en- tertainment for persons of all ages will be provided. Co-operating in the plans are all cf the welfare, business and civic organ- izations of this section of the city, in- cluding the Southeast Washington Citi- zens' Association, the Lincoln Park Citizens' Assoclation, the Southeast ‘Business Men's Association and the various Southeast Parent-Teacher As- sociations. Mrs. M. W. Davis, community secre- tary; is in general charge of the ar- rangements. Among the invited guests who are expected to attend are Sen- ators, Representatives, the District Commissioners, members of the school board and other persons of prominence throughout the city. Reception Committee. The reception committee will include: C. D. Joy president of the South- | east Business Men’s Association; A. G. Herrmann, president of the Southeast Citizens' Association; Joseph L. Gam- mell, president of the Lincoln Park Citizens’ Association: Harold E. Warner, principal of the Hine Junior High School, and L. J. Cantrell, principal of the night school. A basket ball game for boys, an en- tertainment for children and their par- ents, a marionette show for the little ones, carnival dancing for (he grown- ups, and_a ministrel show, “Professor Scueal's Radio School,” are on the pro- gram. The minstrel show is directed by Mrs. Helen W. Zeller, assisted by D. C. Smithson. The blackface troups will include Mrs. Justin Swain, Mrs. D. C. Smithson, FEthel Burroughs, Mrs. Alice Smith, Mrs. A Pollard, Mrs. Clara Kuell, Mrs. Alice Epperly, Mrs. Elsie Hill, Miss Elizabeth Hunter, Horace Higgins, Parry Allen and John H. Zeller. The Elks’' Club Boys' Band will assist the vaudeville minstrel. ‘The children’s entertaifirhent, direct- ed by Evelyn Davis, will include a col- Jegiate tap dance by a boys' group: a | tumbling act by & man’s group, @ group of children acrobats and a special dance by five pairs of twins, all members of the Friday night dance group of the Southeast Center. Prizes to Be Awarded. ‘, The children attending the entertain- ment will pe in costume and prizes W‘Ul be given for the most original and the most attractive costumes. Mrs. Samuel | Crump, Mrs. William A. Carlin and Mrs. Elizabeth O'Neil, members of the Lin- coln Park Citizens’ Association, will be | the judges. | The first floor of the building will be | devoted to exhibits of various associ- | ations. The marionette show by the | Soys’ Club of Washington will include burlesques of Romeo and Juliet, an| opera singer, a juggltr a pianist, and other animated puppets. Colored Man Put Under Bond to Await Jury Action. Benjamin Culberson, colored, 2400 block of Georgia avenue, charged with b\'uklnt into the house of M. E. Buck- jr., professional bondsman, was held for action of the grand jury under $2,000 bond by Judge Isaac R. Hitt at Police Court yesterday. Culberson is alleged to have confessed to the housebreaking, during which the bondsman was severely beaten and scratched about the face last Sunday.
