Stringent measures to curb interfer- ence with broadcast reception are under consideration by the Federal Radio mission. It is learned on high authority that the commission shorily will act upon a proposal that the permissible deviation or “wobble” of stations from their as- signed frequencies be cut to half. “Wobbling” causes both heterodyne whistles and cross-talk, depending upon the distance from the off-side station the listener happens to be. ‘The present allowable deviation is 500 eycles; that is, a station may run off- course on either side of its assigned frequency to this extent. The proposal is to reduce this tolerance.to 250 cycles each way, or a maximum swing of just one-half kilocycle, as against the pres- ent full kilocycle. And as a second step the commission’s engineering division plans to recommend WHK, WGHP, WLBW, WCAU, The Sylvania quartette that all broadcasting stations, irrespe- 3 ang a tive of size, be required to install auto- IS, WEEAN, FWNEL, N WHE, Sty “Hibes matic crystal controls, which actually “police” the frequency of the transmit- ter to avoid off-frequency operation. Practically all of the larger stations of their own volition have installed auto- matic controls, but they are expensive and many of the radio “tots” have been unable to buy them. Manually operated transmitters, or those whose frequencies are controlled by hand, will be banned if the engi- neering division has its way. Any sta- tion not employing an automatic con- trol should be removed from the air, #ccording to their way of thinking. Individual commissioners, however, believe it wéuld be indiscreet, as well a8 unnecessary, to ban manually con- trolled stations. It is pointed out that the reduction in the allowable “wobble" practically would force stations to in- stall the automatic apparatus. Poincare to Go to Riviera. PARIS, November 13 (#).—Former | Premier Raymond Poincare, practically Tecovered from two operations, will leave Paris for the Riviera on Novem- ber 30 and spend the Winter in con- valescing at a Cap Martin villa, placed at his disposal by a wealthy friend. 2 ““, 23 Major “Chain” Features TONIGHT. 7:00—Twilight _melodies: Los Angeles Trio and Concert Orehestra — WJZ, WBZ, WLW, WHAM, KDKA, WRVA, KYW, WWK, WBT and WJR. 7:30—Westinghouse Salute; in- dustrial drama of Ameriea —WJZ, WBZ, WHAM, KDKA, KYW, WRVA, eries’ Quartet, orchestra and others — Also WEEI, WTIC, WJAR, WTAG, WCSH, WLIT, WGY, WGR, WCAE, WTAM, WWJ, WSAI, WGN, WHAS.
