CATHOLICS SCORE FEDERAL DRY LAW Short Skirts and .National Origins Immigration Act Also Assailed. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, September 3.—The Volstead act, companionate marriage, short skirts and the national origins clause of the immigration law were assailed in resolutions presented yes- terday at the joint annual conventions of the Catholic Verein of America and the Catholic Women's Union of America. ‘The Volstead act was declared to have “no moral character” and to be “an infringement upon personal pre- rogatives.” Its repeal was urged. “No matter how daringly extreme the styles become, the modern woman seemingly insists upon wearing them.” the resolution on dress asserted. ‘“Loose clothing that does not reveal the fig- ure” was recommended. ‘The resolution of the national origins clause, adopted by the men's organiza- tion, advocated repeal of a measure “‘unfair to races who have contributed 30 largely to the development of the Nation.” Companionate marriage was de- nounced as “unholy and d and “a disbolical abuse growing from a spirit of materialism and the desire to throw off all moral self-restraint.” Announcement of the election of Alois J. Werbein of Buffalo for a twenty-fourth consecutive term as pres- ident of the Catholic Verein of America was made at a dinner last night. A post-] m today was to seek the cause of death. Traces of gas and poison were looked for particularly. Mrs. Joseph Hunt of Detroit discov- ered the body when her curiosity )!d her to push a large rock from the’top of the sack and to open it. She fainted and her husband, who was repairing their “ automabile nearby, notified the sheriff’s office. Fresh grass beneath the sack indi- cated that the body had been put there only a few hours before. The rock, dis- similar to any in this locality, led offi~ clals to believe that the person who had left the body had intended dropping it in the Illinois River, about a mile away. Coroner Hoganson stated that death occurred about a month ago. ‘The anly clue to the woman's identity was & dental bridge with two front gold teeth, police said. What's the Cause? The outstanding medical au- thorities of the world agree that about 90 per cent of our ailments . and sufferings are due to an over- loaded Colon—which in plain words, means Constipation. A neglected, clogged Colon in a very few days will impair the health of even the physically strong.
