By the Associated Press. : LOS ANGELES, September 3.—Mrs. Lols Pantages, 42-year-old wife of Alex- ander Pantages, theater munnu wu ‘summoned to trial in Superior Cour day on a murder charge g mn of the death of Joe Rol oto on June 16. Rokumoto died several days after a collision between a ear driven by Mrs, Pantages and his own automobile. Witnesses at the preliminary hearing testified that the theater magnate's wife was intoxicated and driving her automobile in a reckless fashion. James P. Costello and Harold Jones, deputy district attorneys, have called 22 witnesses. Some of these, they say, will present evidence of a “shocking” na- ture regarding Mrs, Pantages’ condition at_the time of the eollision. Max Steuer of New York has been called to assist the defense in handling the case. The plans revealed by W. I. Gilbert and W. J. Ford, attorneys for the defendant, indicated an attempt would be made to prove Mrs. Pantages was suffering from a nervous disorder and that she was not intoxicated. Mrs. Pantages’ husband is under in- dictment, accused of attacking 17-year- old Eunice Pringle, co-ed dancer, in his private office. His trial on two charges of assault will open September 23. Special guards were assigned to the courtroom for today’s trial, in anticipa- tion of & hrge erowd, FORMER SIDI WORT WINS DAMAGE SUIT Princess Chievekiar Is Condemned by Turkish Court to Pay $5,000 to Mme. Saida. By the Associated Prass. CONSTANTINOPLE, September 3.— | The Turkish courts today condemned | the Princess Thievekiar to pay $5.000 damages to Mme. Saida, the former Sidi Wort Spfeckles, Kansas farm girl | and divorced wife of John D. Spreckles, Jr, San Francisco millionaire, in the | final_outcome of the famous Turkish scandal libel suit. In her action Mme. Saida, who nnu- was Princess Suad Chakir, charged the Princess Chievekiar had misused her name in a divorce suit against her hus- band. Selim Bey. The Egyptian Prin- cess Chievekiar had fhlr‘ed unfaithful- ness and cited Princess Suad Chakir as co-respondent. A moonlight ride on the Bosporus in 1924 was the origin of suitzs and coun- ter suits embroiling Mme. Saida and the FEgyptian princess, In April, 1928, Princess Chievekiar was fined 5 lire (about $1) by%he Penal Court of Stamboul for insulting the American-born former wife of Prince BSuad Chakir. Princess Chievekiar, former wife of King Fuad of Egypt, sued her husband, Selim Bey. for divorce for his alleged indiscretion in taking the Bosporus ride with the Kansas princess.
