FIND DISCREPANCY INBOARD MINUTES Findings Read in Record of Hall’s Suit for Control of Augusta Chronicle. By the Associated Press. MACON, Ga., August 29.—Min-utes of the meeting of the directors of the Augusta, Ga., Chronical Publishing Co., | on May 13, showing apparent discrep- anci*s in the records as prepared by an attorney and as finally signed yes- terday, were read into the records in the suit of Harold Hall, for operating control of the Chronicle and three South Carolina newspap-rs. In certain aragraphs the name “William Lavarre" | gld been substituted 'in_ the signed | minutes, where “Hall and Lavarre” had appeared in the other copy. The minutes recorded the transfer ef the Chronicle from T. J. Hamilton to Harold Hall, as president and La- varre as chairman of the board. Previously J. C. McAuliffe, secretary of the Chronicle, had identified the final minutes as bearing his page initial and signature. He sald they were sub- mitted to him by Lavarre shortly after the meeting and he signed them without question. The carbon copy submitted by Hall today, was certified without the appear- ance of George Barrett, Augusta, who as attorney for Hall and Lavarre, had sat in the board mecting for the pur- ported purpose of kseping the minutes straight. Barrett said he had prepared | the copy. The Barrett copy in an early para- graph began: “Mr. Hall called attention to the fact that all of the stock of this company was held and owned by Messrs. Hall and Lavarre, with the exception of eigit ehares of preferred stock.” The final minutes which McAuliffe testified last week had been brought | to him by Lavarre for his signature as | secretary began: “Mr. Lavarre called attention to the fact that all of the stock of this com- pany was held and owned by him with | the exception of eight shares of pre- ferred stock.” SURGEON ELECTED STATE LEGION HEAD Dr. James A. BAFFLING MURDER CASE 15 DROPPED London Police Are Reported | to Have Ceased Work on Poison Mysteries. By the Associated Press. LONDON, August 29.—It was report- ed here yesterday that because of llcki of evidence authorities had decided not | to bring charges against any one in the so-called Croydon poisoning cases involving the sudden death of three members of a family.
