UTILITIES FEATURE TRADING ON CURB Profit- Taking Cuts Down Values of Issues Recently Scoring Gains. Sbecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, August 21.—-Profit-; taking, following its recent big ad- vance, took place in Electric Bond & Share on the Curb Exchange today. and after opening near 164, the stock sold down to around the 160 level. The belief prevailed that this stock was entitled to a reaction because of the swiftness of the rise. Other utilities, however, were taken in hand, partic- ularly those in the lower priced group. Active Issues. Dixie Utilities and Rights were ac- tive, the stock selling at a new high for the year on more frequent trans- actions. National Investors, among the investment trust shares, featured by ris- ing more than 5 points above the closing level on Tuesday. Cities Serv- ice moved into new high territory on increased trading, and Duke Power reached a new altitude above 300. This stock has been advancing steadily and appears to be getting into split-up ter- ritory. Oil stocks did not do much, being influenced by an increase of about 45,500 barrels in the daily average crude production, as reported by the American Petroleum Institute. Gulf Oil held around 205, while small re- cessions occurred in such issues as Humble, Ohio and Standard of Indiana. Anchor Post Fence remained in active demand, following its net advance of 3 points on Tuesday. Today, the stock, after closing the previous day at G412, opened at 6673 and had a run-up from the latter level. Dayton Air & Engine continued its flight, reaching new peak levels for the year. Profit-taking occurred at times in Budd Manufacturing. The same thing occurred in De Forest Radio. Crocker ‘Wheeler, which had a sensational spurt last week, opened a point higher at 431, the latter quotation comparing with its top for the year of 500. There was some realizing in Tri-Con- tinental after it opened at 50, the stock around midday getting down to around 471, only to snap back again to around the opening price of 50. Values Strengthened. Pennroad moved a little higher in sgympathy with the srength of some of the standard rails on the big board, which sold at new highs for the year or longer. The drop in money from 7 to 6 per cent brought about some strengthening in values in the afternoon.
