B GANNES, July 31 looks as though the would again be a “saison mjcrte” for the Riviera. This used to the time when students and unfashionable people seeking a .cheap holiday came along, but bathing in the deep blue Mediter- ranean, drying in the sun and bathing again has become an infectious delight, and so there probably always will be & Summer season now. { At Cannes, the Palm Beach Casino, which has replaced the icipal ca- sino at the point of the Croisette, has sliding roofs for the restaurant, concert hall and gaming rooms, and for the seeker after beauty there are, in addi- tion to the Turkish baths, luminous sun baths and massage rooms. They actually have substituted fine sand for the pebbles on the beach, and provided artificial moonlight for the open-air swimming bath, which is con- stantly filled with fresh sea water. Mrs. Lewisohn's lovely villa on the Crofsette has its own beautiful swim- ming pool, and has been taken for Au- gust by Miss Maxine Elliott; the Ranee of Pudukota is planing to spend a con- siderable time at her Cannes villa, too. (Copyright, 1929. by North American News- Alliance.) (NANA)—Tt S 'r never LE TOUQUET GAINS FAVOR FOR WEEK END TRIPS Many Take Villas for Summer, as Town Is But Two Hours From London by Air. LE TOUQUET, July 31 (NAN.A).— You can fly from here to London in less than two hours, so no wonder Le Tougquet is becoming so popular for Summer week ends. People are taking villas for the Summer, too, among them Mrs. Gilbert Miller. Doubtless she thought this convenient as well as delightful, as Gilbert Miller is busy in London with the rehearsals of Gertrude Lawrence's new show, though it will not be shown there before going to America. Flying becomes more and more com- fortable, and these fine days, with the cliffs of Dover clearly visible long be- fore one leaves the French coast, the snapshotter aboard enjoys himself greatly. Lord and Lady Dudley, who are great golfers, have been on a visit recently and have determined to come back again in September. | (& ovrizht, 1629, by North American News- paper Alliance.) Respecting the complaint of inmates of the poorhouse at Hitchen, England, | that they were tired of the ‘“goody- | good” literature supplied them, the offi- {cials will furnish higher-grade reading.
