FINANCIAL INCREASE 15 SHOWN BY BANK CLEARINGS July Movement of Money Bet- ter Than a Year Ago. Above June. BY EDWARD C. STONE. PBank clearings in Washington dur- ing July made an unusually fine show- ing, according to the figures compiled today by Charles E. Bright, manager of the Washington Clearing House As- sociation. Total July clear- ings in this city amounted to $12 497,771.87, a mu better showing than a vear ago when they the total or a gain during the month ending tocay eof 3 104.06. The clear were afo well ahead of June, the figures for the pre- ceding_motith be- ing $124,028,347.42. Used as a business barometer all these figures indicate that trade has held up remarkably well in Washington, the heavy check turn: over in the banks indicating unmistak- able mercantile activity and growth. Gustave W. Forsbers. Clearings in the Capital for the first | seven months of the present year are | equally interesting. The total for this | period amounts to $378,545,619.05 while clearings for the same period in 1928 | were $8: 09,993.8: ‘These ures reveal an increase in clearings so far in 1929 of $53,335,625.23. With only normal business during the yemainder of the year, clearings in Washington are certain to hang up a new record, which will be highly grati- fving to the city's banking-and business interests.
