Action on Claims. | Reports from London, telling of at- tacks on the Young plan of settling German reparations, made by, Philip Snowden, Labor chancellor of #ue ex- | chequer, and David Lloyd George, Lib- eral leader, stirred much interest in ‘Washington yesterday. They raised the question whether the objections of the British government were such as might | ! block an agreement at_ the coming | political conference, to be held probably | at The Hague, to pass on the plan. Senator %m‘nh. Republican, of Idaho, | | chairman of foreign relations, who is | | watching the developments respecting reparations closely, pointed out in this | connection that Congress will have to | pass on a certain phase of the agree- | ment if one is finally settled on by the foreign governments concerned in the matter. This is the scaling down of ths American claims for the cost of maintaining the army of occupation in | Germany.. 9, | Senator Borah said this was a mat- ter for both houses of Congress to pass on, and that the Executive would not have power to scale down a debt owed to the United States Government. Sen- ator Borah, however, does not object to | the scaling down of the claims, and does not foresee difficulty in getting the as- sent of Congress. 1t is the view of Senator Borah that, if Snowden and Lloyd George stand by their position, as expressed in attack- ing the Young plan, it will either have to be modified to meet British objec- | | tions or will be blocked. He thought it | not unlikely the objections of the Brit- i ish to inadequate payments would be | met. YACHT 1S BOARDED Officers Go Aboard Vessel Char-| tered by Capitalist, But Ap- parently Find No Liquor. | | | | | | | By the Associated Press. |~ DETROIT, July 27.—The yacht Mar- go, chartered by Louis Mendelssohn, De- troit capitalist from Bert Massie of Chi- cago, was boarded here today by cus- toms border patrol agents. No explanation of the boarding was given by customs officers and members of the party aboard the yacht could not be_reached. When two border patrol officers drew alongside the Margo early this morn- ing it was at first believed they were bringing clearance papers, but when one of them remained aboard and _the others put off in the patrol boat, | watchers from the dock became curious. | | Later, more officers boarded the vessel. | | Soon after, several members of the | yachting party left the boat with their | | luggage. | It was rumored here that members of the crew who had been discharged had reported to prohibition officers that there was liquor aboard. Whether the | | officers found any could not be learned. | | Efforis of the Bureau of Agriculture to revive the once lucrative coffee in- dustry in parts of the Philippines are repolfl'd to be meeting with gratifying results.
