SIX COMMITTEES RUSH SENATE WORK Only One May Have Task Complete Before Summer Recess Begins. By the Associated Press. As the Senate begins winding up its work preparatory to a probable Summer recess, six of its committees are making plans to rush on with the work still ahead of them. Only one is likely to have finished its job before the ad- Journment. Committee hearings in the long drawn- out contest of William B. Wilson, for- mer Democratic Secretary of Labor, for the seat in the Senate to which, on the face of the returns, William S. Vare, his Republican opponent, was elected from Pennsylvania in 1926, will come to an end this week. Chairman Waterman and his elections subcommittee have listened to the final arguments and have only to study a brief to be presented by David Waller- stein, counsel for Wilson. Then it will prepare a report and submit the docu- ment to the full elections committee. A report to the Senate, however, is unlike- 1y before the recess. Texas to Be Visited. The patronage committee, which has been delving into disposition of Federal appointments in Southern States, is planning to visit Texas to learn more details of methods used by National Committeeman R. B. Creager and his Republican organization in the Lone Star State. Chairman Brookhart ex- pects to uncover more evidence about ‘what he describes as “the most auto- cratic machine I ever heard of.” ‘The Senate Indian affairs committee is seeking authority to spend $15,000 to go ahead with its investigation of the Government's treatment of the In- dian, Chairman Frazier has announced that he wants the committee to_visit seven Western States and he hopes that a representative of the Indian of- fice will go along. Textile Probe Action Soon. Action on the Wheeler resolution pro- | posing an_investigation of labor trou- ! bles in the textile industry may be taken this week. Two reports from the manufacturers’ committee, to which the proposal was referred, are to be considered. The majority report, pre- pared by Senator Hale, Republican, Maine, will propose that the inquiry be referred to the Federal Trade Commis- sion and the Tariff Commission, and the minority report, written by Senator ‘Wheeler, Democrat, Montana, author of the resolution, will recommend that the investigation be carried on by the committee itself. The Wheeler view is shared by Chairman La Follette. A resolution to investigate the op- eration of the Federal Reserve system and to recommend legislation to cure defects, if any are found, is before the banking committee. Senator King, Democrat, Utah, author of the proposal, plans to ask the committee to appoint a subcommittee so that hearings may be held during the recess. Another investigation proposed by King, which would inquire into the suthority of President Hoover to order conservation of oil, is pending before & subcommittee of the judiciary com- mittee. FLYERS HOP CLOUDS IN MARKING TIME Over-Ocean Flight by Green Flash and Yellow Bird Still Delayed by Bad Weather. By the Associated Press. OLD ORCHARD, Me., June 3— ‘Wearied by weather conditions over the Atlantic which prevented the Green Flash from hopping off for Rome and the Yellow Bird for Paris, Lewis A. Yancy and Roger Q. Williams of the American plane went cloud-hopping yesterday. Latest weather advices from Dr. James H. Kimball of New York Weather Bureau. said storms were prevalent over the North Atlantic, with no prom- ise of better weather before tomorrow. ‘Williams and Yancy took the Green Flash aloft more as a relief from inac- tivity than for test purposes. Most of the fuel load which was put into the plane last Wednesday before a broken wheél prevented a take-off was drained out and only enough for a short hop was left in the main tanks. Yancy sald they ran into freezing conditions at 6,000 feet, which caused ice to form on the wings. Jean Assolant and Rene Lefevre of the Yellow Bird also planned to make a short flight for the purpose of test- ing & and benzol mixture, but a crcll-'gs prevented a take-off of the big French plane.
