C, May 22.—Union with the United Presbyterian Church in | North America having been approved, the General Assembly of the Presbyte- rian Church in the United States to- day turned to consideration of closer relations with other Presbyterian bodies. Union with the United Presbyterians received the stamp of approval of the assembly yesterday, but vet must be passed upon by the Presbyteries indi- vidually before the position of the church is determined. The vote on the proposed union was without record, but a motion that would have deferred action was defeated, 175 to 83. The latter vote was looked upon a3 & test of the union proposal. The union would mean & church with an approximated membership of 625,000 The Presbyterian Church in the United States has about 450,000 communicants, and the United Presbyterian Church in North America numbers approximately 175,000 members. MISSING MILWAUKEE BROKER APPREHENDED 85-Year-01d Man Accused of Fraud Is Recognized by Former Secretary. By the Associated Press. MILWAUKEE, Wis, May 22—Ap- prehension of a 65-year-old president of a brokerage company here. wha dis- appeared in August, 1928, after clients complained of losing $40,000, was made possible Tuesday night after his former secretary had recognized him in the business district. He is James T. F. Stecher, who was taken to the police station and served with four warrants in which he is charged with embezzle- ment and fraud by Milwaukeeans who intrusted him with their savings. His arrest was brought about after his former employe, Mrs. Irene Spicci- ati, and her mother had followed the elderly man to his home and then called detectivest Stecher, according to police, has been convicted in four States since 1900. The last sentence was in 1918, when he was convicted in Wisconsin of obtaining money under false pretenses. EXTORTION PLOT FAILS. Gangsters Trapped in Attempt to Swindle Chicago Barber. CHICAGO, May 22 (#).—An extor- tlon plot went awry last night and sent two men into a police trap when the intended victim appealed to officers for aid. Walter Grudszein, s barber, having received notes demanding $200 be placed at a designated place, turned the letters over to police, who instruct- ed him to comply with the demand.
