MRS WILBURHEADS SCOUT GEST LST Girls Will Entertain at Little , Economics; Miss Christine Hel House During Better Homes Week. Mrs. Ray Lyman Wilbur heads the st of distinguished women who will be guests of the Girl Scouts at their Little House at Eighteenth street and New York avenue this week when programs will ‘be held in observance of Better Homes week. Other guests will include Mrs. Proctor L. Dougherty, Mrs. Sidney F. Taliaferro, Mrs, Harry S. New, Mrs. Joseph H. Bradley, Girl Scout commis- sioner; Mrs. B. F. Cheatham, deputy commissioner, and Mrs. Frederick Brooke, regional chairman of the Girl Scouts. Mrs. Stanley Collamore Sears, chair- man of the Girl Scout Little House committee in charge of the programs, will be assisted by Mrs. George F. Ak- erson, wife of the Secretary to Mr. Hoover. Nursery Room Is Featured. An interesting feature of the house will be the exhibit and demonstration ; of the nursery and also a room equip- ped for “the toddler.” Dr. Lois Meek, educational secretary, American Asso- ciation of University Women, is chair- man of the committee preparing this exhibit. Rowena Schmidt Carpenter, assistant chief of the Bureau 7:1 Home ig, di- rector of the Nursery School of the Washington Child Research Center, and Mrs. Amy Jane Englund, in charge of the homemaking program of ‘the Na- : tional Girl Scouts, Inc., are engaged in ) ‘preparing this exhibit. | t In equipping and furnishing the room for the toddler, self-help ap- paratus and equipment will be kept in mind and furnishings and equip- ment will be so arranged that the child may carry on his activities with- out difficulty. Mrs. Gans Is Supervisor. Demonstration in hostess work, cook- Ing, nursing, table-setting, bedmaking, will be supervised by Mrs. Isaac Gans, chairman of standards and awards of the Washington Girl Scout Council. Mrs. R. Bruce Horsfall, -president of the Girl Scout Leaders’ Association, will be in charge of an exhibit of rocks, minerals and woods. She will include many features, one of particular inter- est being an exhibit which she calls “The Birds’ Winter Food Basket.” * Other exhibits will include the home library and handicraft, the latter spon- sored by Miss Gertrude L. At a meeting of the commission to- day David Lynn, architect of the Capi- tol, announced that while the author- ization for acquisition of the privately owned land in these two squares is $900,000, the owners are asking the Government a total of $1,348,952, which is $448,952 in excess of the authorized appropriation. The compission instructed Mr. Lynn to carry his negotiations further in an effort to see if the owners can be in- duced to sell within the authorization.
