Included in the offerings are $4,000,000 State of Tennessee Bridge bonds due in 15 years and callable after 7 years. State issues rarely are callable. Another unusudl feature is that they are redeemable at 101. The largest is- sue for the week is $28,000,000 State of Arkansas 4!> per cent Highway and Toll-Bridge bonds. ‘The Shenango works of the American Sheet & Tin Plate Co. at Newcastle, Ohto, is scheduled to step up its pro- duction capacity tomorrow with 40 hot mills operating instead of 30. Important consolidation of large buying power among chain stores, de partment stores and converters make mergers of cotton mills and selling agencies desirable, says a report by ‘Walker D. Hines, president of the Cot- ton Textile Institutes, Inc. He notes a trend toward consolidation of mills and declares they should be helped along whenever economically sound. The situation seemed to indicate lack of confidence in the market’s structure, | despite the fact that the break at the | close of last week had temporar; | least, improved the technical position of many issues. Offerings came out in | volume once the decline got under way | again and some of the favorites which | showed resistance power for a spell were | as weak as those of smaller market im- portance. ‘The opening was characterized by support for numerous representative leaders, but this was soon withdrawn when prices gave way. . Radio new, International Telephone & Telegraph, National Cash Register and the can| stocks were bid up in an effort to stimulate the list, but this leadership proved ineffective. International Tele- phone managed to reach a new high, advancing 10 points after the -opening, but the entire gain was later wiped out. ! In the case of Radio, which touched 91 on the rally, the subsequent selling broke it well under Saturday’s closing quotation. International Nickel, one of last week’s bear targets, also rallied for a time, but was unable to resist the main downward tendency. All Groups Affected. Steel, Bethlehem, all the coppers and numerous high-priced volatile special- ties suffered alike. Most of these showed initial steadiness and rallied well up to the stocks in which a larger | short interest undoubtedly exists. After the covering movement spent itself pressure appeared and canceled all the improvement. A few went lower than before. There was no change in the local credit situation. Call loans renewed at the 9 per cent rate in effect for several days. As a matter of fact, sentiment seemed to be dominated entirely by the money outlook. There was some calling of loans. Shortly after midday money rose to 10 per cent. U. S.-CANADIAN TRADE || IS CONVENTION SUBJECT| | Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, March 25.—Trade and commerce between the United States and Canada will be one of the most important subjects to be discussed at the national foreign trade convention to be held in Baltimore April 17, 18 and 19, according to G.
