THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D0 THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1929. 4 35 1INDY’ AND ANNE WED IN JUNE Place Where Ceremony Will Be Held Has Not Been Definitely Selected. By the Associated Press. MEXICO CITY, March 21.—Miss Anne Morrow is to be a June bride. Miss Morrow and her fiance, Col. Charles A. Lindbergh, themselves have authorized announcement they will be married in that month. They have not decided, however, whether the wedding is to take place in Mexico or in the United States. Expected to Return Soon. The colonel is expected to fly back to Mexico City within a few weeks for another visit with Miss Morrow, to their plans will be revealed. There are indications he will make two visits before the wedding. ‘ The announcement of the incompleted Wwedding arrangements was made yester- day by persons close to the betrothed pair in line with promises nearly a month ago during the colonel's visit here that the plans of the young couple would be revealed in due course and that there would not be an elopsment or | secret wedding. ‘There was speculation, here as to whetler the present internal conditions in Mexico would cause the wedding to | be held outside this country. Mexican officials have repeatedly expressed their hope that the two will be married in Mexico, where their romance began. Plane Is Being Repaired. It was believed Ambassador Morrow might exert his influence to have the ceremony performed either in Mexico City or at Cuernavaca, in view of the expressed wishes of the officers of the nation to which he is accredited. ‘The colonel's plane, the City of ‘Wichita, which he smashed while riding ‘with Miss Morrow during his recent stay here, is undergoing repairs at Valbuena Flying Field, and it is believed he will fly it back to the United States when next he comes here. The plane was borrowed from friends at Wichita, Kans., Jor the flight. ANOTHER CHAPTER IN at| | ing Yacht Commuters Pe Luxe Disdain | Subway Fare Rise Palatial Speedboats Put| Wealthy Above Traffic Worries of Hoi Polloi. | By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, March 21.—When the‘ Supreme Court at Washington decides | whether the New York subway fare| shall stay at a nickel or go up to 7 cents it will mean flaring headlines in | the papers here, but the decision will | have little effect on one class of com- | muters—The specd-boat owners of Long Island Sound, the Hudson and the Jer- sey coast. There are half a hundred or so of these commuters, and with the coming | of Spring the rivers are once more | ploughed twice dafly with their fast | furrows. Most of them live along the | sound, in Long Island or Connecticut, | and they come roaring down through | Hell Gate and the East River to dock | ®| at the New York Yacht and the Co-[ lumbia Yacht Clubs. These boats, 40 to 100 feet long, have | a speed of 35 to 50 miles and cost from $40,000 to $75,000. They are lux- uriously appointed inside and are the | property of wealthy business men who | have long since passed the stage of per- | sonal inierest in the cost of subway | v these boats are used is about | as follow The craft is ordered to be | ready at a suburban pier every morn- | The owner steps into his speed boat and is off for his office 30 miles ring the trip he may | . read the papers, dictate nd have time for a stroll. On the home 2t night the routine | may permit a shower bath and change | to dinner clothes or a hand or two of | bridge. It is commuting de luxe and, as yet, confined to the rich. Men with littie boats, costing from a few hundred dollars to £10,000 or so, can hardly en- gage in it, as membership in the pri- vate yacht clubs might prove a serious burden to the more humble boat owners. Among the regular water commuters, Henry Sutphen, president of the Na- tional Association of Engine and Boat Manufacturers, lists the following: Brig. Gen. B. H. Borden of Rumford, N. J., 30 miles in 55 minutes; George M. Pynchon, Greenwich, Conn., a 92- footer doing 30 miles in an hour and | 45 minutes; Gerhard T. Dahl, from Northport, Long Island, 47 miles in 1 hour and 30 minutes; Milton Statler, from Great Neck, Long Island, at 50 miles an hour; S. R. Rosoff, from Marl- boro in another 50-mile boat; Harrison FINE CAR HISTORY OPENED BY PIERCE-ARROW HEREVER fine automo- biles are shown, the new Pierce-Arrow easily carries off the honors —and offers warm reassurance that the recently ex- panded Pierce-Arrow organization is, more intensely than ever before, Pierce-Arrow!
