L U.S. HALL OF FAME NEARING CAPACITY Arrival of La Follette Statue| Revives Study of Problem. Arrival of the statue of the late Sen- ator Robert M. La Follette of Wiscon- sin in Statuary Hall has served to re- | mind officials at the Capitol once more | that the capacity of the Hall of Fame | rapldly is being reached. It has re-| vived discussion of what other pro- | vision might be made for the statuary. | The La Follette statue, which will be unveiled April 25, will bring the total in Statuary Hall to 57. Under a law passed many years ago each State is entitled to place two statues there, which means that ultimately there will be 96. Four new statues have been un- | Vetled in the past 15 months and offi- | cials have knowledge of 9 or 10 others | likely to be received in the next few | years. Not many more can be placed in | the present hall One suggestion advanced is that the erypt of the Capitol might be renovated | and converted into a statuary hall. An-; other proposal has been that additional ! statues be placed in the areas adjoin- ing Statuary Hall, but this would be in | the nature of a makeshift arrangement ! and hardly would accommodate the maximum of 39 statues that could be installed in the future. Another pos- sibility would be a separate hall of fame building. The La Follette statue is of marble and was done in Paris by Jo Davidson, an American scuiptor. It shows “Fight- ing Bob” La Follette in a seated pose. The senior La Follette’s place in the ! Senate has been taken by his son, Sen- | ator Robert M. La Follette, jr. | The problem of how to provide for | the expansion of Statuary Hall is be- ! ing studied by David Lynn. M‘chl'efl of | the Capitol. and by Charles E. Fairman, art curator of the Capitol. HURT BY n'mLLEY CAR.
