Simons, who was in the commission business in this city for many years, and who died about 14 years ago, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Timothy A. Fitzgerald, 7 Sherman cir- cle, at noon yesterday. Mrs. Simons, native of Baltimore, Md., where she was born May 11, 1864, had been a resident of this city more than 50 years. She was married in 1881 and was the mother of 12 children, 8 of them surviving her. Besides Mrs. Fitzgerald, the children are Albért J., Willlam H., Hamilton A., George F. and Henry M. Simons of this city; Walter J. Simons of Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. Ella M. Fenton. Mrs. Simons 50 18 survived by 24 grandchildren. Incumbent officers of the Joint In- dustrial Council, which is composed of representatives of local trade organiza- tions and which has as its purposes encouragement of commercial and in- dustrial activities of Greater Washing- ton of desired types, were re-elected yesterday afternoon at the annual meet- ing held in the offices of the Washing- ton Chamber of Commerce in the Homer Building. ‘The officers are C. Phillips Hill, chair- man; John H. Hanna, vice chairman, and Dorsey W. Hyde, jr., secretary. Mr. Hanna, as chairman of the committee on program, outlined proposed activities for the year 1929, dealing with the in- dustrial survey, new industries and the encouragement of the location in Wash- ington of headquarters offices of na- tional organizations. The chairman was authorized to ap- point a special committee to study the Cramton park land acquisition bill to ascertain what effect it might have upon present and proposed commercial activities located on either side of the Potomac River between Washington and Alexandria. The Cramton measure pro- vides for development of a George Washington memorial parkway on both sides of the Potomac, costing about $7,000,000. 13-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL MEETS DEATH SUDDENLY Alice V. Hawkins Expires Follow- ing Collapse on Street—Athletic Exercise Believed Cause. Alice Virginia Hawkins, 13 years old, of 662 G street northeast, collapsed on the strect yesterday afternoon as she left Stuart Junior High School, where she was a student, and died half an hour later despite efforts of Dr. Louis Jimal of Casualty Hospital and mem- bers of the Fire Department rescue squad to revive her., Death was said by Coroner J. Ramsay Nevitt to be due to an acute dilation of the heart. ‘The girl is said to have been prom- inent in school athletics, and Dr. Nevitt thinks she may have overtaxed her heart. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hawkins. ‘The rescue squad car, answering the call, collided with a truck at Third and H strets, and one of the firemen was slightly injured. He is Pvt. N. Mortin- sen, 32 years old. After being treated for bruises he continued on to the school. The truck was operated by Jo- seph S. Queen, colored of 1337 Q street.
