- MARION E.RHODE | CALLED BY DEATH Assistant to Controller,‘ Treasury Department, and | Formerly in Congress. Marion Edward Rhodes, 60 years old, | assistant to the Controller General of the Treasury and former Republican Representative in Congress from the thirteenth Missouri district, died in George Washington University Hospital rday afternoon. Death was due anemia and septic poisoning. Mr. Rhodes, who was appointed to the Controller General's office by Pres- ident Harding, served here in the Fifty-ninth, Sixty-sixth and Sixty-sev- enth Congresses. During his last term | in Congress he was active as chairman | of the House committee on mines and | mining. Born on a farm in Bollinger Countv Mo., Mr. Rhodes was educated in th Dflblic schools, at Mayfield Smith A(‘Bd- i emy, Cape Girardeau State Normal, Missouri State University and at Stan- berry College, being graduated with a bachelor of science degree at the latter. Admitted to Bar in 1896. Following, he taught school and - studied law, being admitted to the bar in 1896. He began the practice of law | in Potosi, Mo, in the latter year. i He a member of the Missouri and American Bar Associations. In 1900 he was elected prosecuting attorney of | ‘Washington County, Mo.. and re-elected | in 1902. He also served one term as city attorney and one term as mayor of | the city of Potosl, and one term as a member of the lower house of the M souri State Legislature. Subsequently he seryed as a member of the Missouri State Board of Law Examiners, and was chairman of the committee on re- vision of laws that revised the Missouri lllfiltu in 1908. During the World War Rhodes was a member of the Lq:l Ad\'isory Board of Washington wm ‘Wife and One Son. Mr. Rhodes was married to Miss Min- | nie P. Davidson. He leaves his wife | and a son, Marion Benjamin Rhodefl of the Bancroft Hotel. He was vice president of the Missouri Society here, a member of the Con- gressional .
