No date has been set for the event. Of more than usual interest in Army circles was the ammouncement early in the week of Miss Virginia Mason's en- gagement to Dr. Montgomery Blalr. Miss Mason is the daughter of the late Brig. Gen. Charles Fleld Mason, bril- years as head of the large Army hos- ital and succeeded Maj. Gen. Wil- Crawford as chief sanitary officer of the Panama Commission. Later he was in command at Walter Reed Hospital, where he began the en- largement of the hospital prior to the World War. He was chief sanitarian of the A. E. F., but suffered a physical breakdown which wes the beginning of a lul;g iliness that resulted in his death in 1922. Gen. Mason was a member of a prominent Virginia family of the South. Miss Mason’s maternal grand- father is Gen. Luther Hare, U. retired. Poetry Circle Enjoys Christmas Program ‘The American Poetry Circle held a very delightful Christmas meeting last week in the Prench salon of the Rochambeau. Miss Maud Scruggs, the resident, received the guests assisted by Mrs. Bullock-Wills, the first vice presi- dent; Miss McCaw Erwin, the secretary, and Mrs. C. L. G. Anderson. ‘The program opened with a poem, “The Nun’s Confession,” by Mrs. Gard- ner Orme, followed by Christmas verses read by Mrs. Bullock-Willis, Miss Vin- cent and Miss Erwin. Miss Maund Scruggs’ two poems, “To A Wild Rose” and “Water Lily,” interpreting Mc- Dowell's music, were read by Mrs. An- derson, accompanied by Miss Scruggs at the piano.
