Mr. Chapman is a portrait artist, Senor Gonzalo Arango of Cuba is leaving Sunday for New York, where he will spend the Christmas holidays, COLONEL OF MARINES DEAD IN CALIFORNIA Heart Attack Proves Fatal to Col. Henry C. Davis, World War Veteran. Col. Henry C. Davis, U. 8. Marine Corps, native of this city, veteran of the Spanish-American and World Wars and numerous campaigns, died at his home, in Coronado, Calif., yester- day. Death was due to a heart attack. Col. Davis, who was 51 years old, had been on the West coast, in charge of the Western recruiting section, with headquarters in San Francisco, since re- turning in September from China, where he had been in command of expedi- tlonary forces since 1927. Prior to then he had been stationed at the Marine Barracks, Norfolk. He was on leave at the time of his death. Col. Davis was graduated from the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga., in 1923, and from the Army War College a year later. Prior to then he had been in command of the Naval Station at Guam and in command of the 3d Regi- ment at Santo Domingo. He had also seen. service in the Philippines, Cuba and on board the U. 8. S. Wisconsin and the U. 8. S. Albany. Commissioned a second lieutenant in the Spanish-American War, the officer was honorably discharged in February, 1899, and in April of that year com- missioned a first lleutenant in the Marine Corps. He reached the grade of captain in July, 1900; major in May, 1908; lieutenant colonel in August, 1917, and colonel in January, 1923. He is survived by his widow and a young son. MRS.
