20 ALY CELEBRATES DAY OF VICTORY Jhrongs Cheer King, Duce and Pay Tribute to Memory of Diaz. By the Associated Press. ROME, November 5.—All Italy today celebrated the tenth anniversary of her Armistice day and her victory over Austria in the battle of Vittorio Veneto. Enthusiasm was nowhere greater than in Rome, where 70,000 veterans and war cripples took part in the parades and exercises. From the early hours of the morning the streets rang with the music of pa- triotic hymns. At 9 am. King Victor Emmanuel dedicated ~the “Mother House of War Wounded,” as & perma- nent memorial to their sacrifice. Then came the parade to the Plazza Venezia along streets lined with Fascist asso- clations and organizations and with airplanes roaring overhead. Speaking from the balcony of the palace overlooking the are, Premier Mussolini paid tribute those who had fought for Italy during the World War, those who stood before him and those who had never returned from the battlefields. At the conclusion of his speech he asked “if it is necessary, will you do tomorrow what you have done, what we did together, yester- day?” Marshal Diaz Honored. ‘The immense throng of veterans raised their arms in Roman salute, waved their banners and replied with a resounding “yes.” From the Plazza Venezia, the column of veterans made its way slowly up the via Nazionale to the Church of Santa Maria Degll Angell, where lie the remains of Marshal Armando Diaz, Ttaly’s “duke of victory.” There the men he commanded 10 years ago si- lently dropped their wreaths as they filed past his tomb. In the early evening Roman citizens of all classes joined in a tribute to their king. They massed in the big square in front of the Quirinal Palace, on the hill of that name, until the King and Queen had twice appeared on the bal- cony in response to their ringing Sing’ Victor Emmanuel, smiled as' he saluted in the response to the repeated cheers.
