BY J. C. ROYLE. Speeial Dispaich to The Star. NEW YORK. October 17.—A cash register war may be hovering just over the edge of the business horizon. It was announced today that the Ohmer Fare Register Co. of Dayton, Ohio, has determined to enter the lists as a com- petitor for the cash register ness of the country. Up to the present time the largest factors in the cash register s i | | i field have been the National Cash Reg- | er Co. and Register Co. For the past 30 years the Ohmer Co. has been identified with the manu- facture of numerous devices for reg- istering cash fare and other fares on passenger vehicles, and with the d velopment of the meters used on taxi- cabs. One new development by the company has becn a machine for nse of ‘transportation companies which prints the ticket for the passenger while he waits. A stronz emphasis in competing with the older cash register concerns will be placed on the small size of the Ohmer machine, it being claimed that it re- quires only as much counter space as would be covered by an ordinary sheet of writing paper. The National Cash Register Co. makes eight basie types of cash registers and its business has been the Remington Cash | growing, both in the domestic and for-| eign fields. The foreign business is expeeted to advance 100 per cent within the ye In 1927 its net income was In the first half of this carnings of $3.638.000 more than red dividend requirements for the y ‘The earnings for the year are estimated at 10 per cent more than tor 1927, and the concern 15 believed to be considering an extra dividend. De- velopment of new types of machines is in_prospect ‘The Remington Cash Register Co. has recently reccived a tremendous vol- ume of orders for some of the chain store groups. The company is a_ sub- idiary of the Remington Arms Co. It is the second largest producer of cash registers. Its cash register sales for the vear so far are 100 per cent higher than for the corresponding period of 1927. A new Remington model also has been developed. These facts indicate a tightening of competitive lines in the cash register field. although business has been so good that all the companies concerned are assured of fine profits this year. 0il Co.
