SPEARE. }, Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. : NEW YORK, September 27.—Although call money today renewed 1 per cent Jower than it has been recently, and under any rate in the past five wecks, the effect of this was not evident in bond prices. In fact high-grade, long-term cor- . poration issues had a tendency to sag v and showed the same heavy tone as ,during the previous session. This was » illustrated in a decline of nearly a point £4n Union Pacific first 4s, fractional losses ;in Northern Pacific and Baltimore & i Ohio issues and in the shading of prices | ¥ of most of the new 4!, per cent issues. | United States Government bonds and £ notes did not respond to the temporarily ) better money conditions. This may have been due to the unexpected announce- ¥ ment from Washington that the Treas- Lury is to follow up its recent issue of 141, per cent nine-month notes with a ¥$200,000,000 offering next month. These . Will be used to retire the unpresented \Third Liberty 41;s. Convertible issues followed the trend of the stock market which was down- , ward. Andes Copper 7s had an early .decline of 115 points, and Anaconda Cop- .per 7s, 2 points. The various 415 per cent junior rails were heavy. Seaboard Air Line refund- . CHICAGO, September 27 (#).—En- larged export business in North Ameri- can wheat, together with a bulge in wheat prices at Liverpool, did much today to hoist the wheat market here. TRADING UNCERTAI IN-GURB SHARES | Speculative Sentiment Un- dergoes Change, With Heavy Liquidations. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN, Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK. September 27.—Irregu- larity characterized the movement of prices on the Curb Exchange today. However, it was evident that specula- tive sentiment that had strongly fav- ored the side of advance had undergone a decided change as o the immediate future trend. This was reflected in rather heavy liquidation at intervals in issues where lightening up of specula- tive holdings could be accomplished without materially affecting prices. Electric Bond & Share Securities was a case in point and before liquidation had been completed the price receded from the previous final of 130% to below 126. American Super Power “A" lost fractionally, while, on the other hand, Puget Sound Power & Light and United Gas & Improvement continued i in demand. Wl 0ils Bid Up. The oils as a group did better than most others, but in their case special reasons were responsible for the buy- ing. Prairie Pipe Line, which holds prospects for a substantial extra dis- tribution to shareholders, was bid up some 3 points and Indiana Pipe Line was higher. In the c of the pipe i line issues there was al the addi- 3' | tional incentive of increased earnings as a result of large pipe line runs. Venezuelan Petroleum and Pantepec were turned over in enormous volume, the former reaching a new high. Lion Oil & Refining went to its best fol- lowing reports of July and August earn- ings, which were almost sufficient to cover the full year's dividend require- ments. Asbestos Feature. United States Asbestos was a feature among specialties and also went to a new top. Increased business as a re- sult of contracts with Ford and Chevrolet was the basis for the demand. Net for 1926 amounted to $1.19 a ‘share. In 1927 this was increased to $2.57 and for the first half of the current year to $2.73, with indications that the last six months' operations will disclose net per share well in ex- cess of that for the first half period. Reactionary tendencies developed in the early trading today. Growing be- lief that the market had gone ahead too fast in discounting business im- provement encouraged unloading of lorfg commitments. Electric Bond & Share Securities broke from 1304 to 125% before sup- port was encountered and American Super Power “A” lost half a point, while United Gas & Improvement and Puget Sound Power & Light continued in de- mand at higher prices. Checker Cab Manufacturing and Marion Steam Shovel resisted the pres- sure and were carried forward to new highs while American Rolling Mills gained almost 3 points further. NEW YORK, September 27.—The up- ward movement in cotton continued un- der broadenifg buying from outside quarters and prices advanced into new high ground today. Following a setback of $1 a bale in late trading yesterday, a quantity of overnight buying orders came from all sections of the country for execution at the opening, which rushed January above the 19c level, highest price of he week. Yesterday's weckly weather report, which proved the most unfavorable since harvesting began two months ago, attracted public attention to the cotton situation and predictions of colder, rainy weather over a large part of the belt stimulated active buying ‘The volume of contracts for sale was not adequate to meet requirements and December sold above 19%jc, or 2¢ from the low records made a week ago.
