By the Assoclated Press. ELIZABETHTON, Tenn., September 7. —The little city of 12,000 population, surprised and elated at the announce- ment that Herbert Hoover had selected it for his appearance in Tennessee and possibly his only appearance in the South of the presidential campaign, is busy planning to receive its honor guesi October 6. On the heels of the definite announce- ment that the Republican candidate would speak in Elizabethton a small army of committees was formed and speakers declared the visit of Hoover to be “the greatest event in the history of our city.” J. Shepherd, manager of an Asheville, N. C., broadcasting station, has an- nounced that he will arrive here Mon- day to prepare for a Nation-wide radio hook-up for the Hoover address. A telephone company has begun negotiations for the installing of loud speakers where the candidate will speak. Arrangements are being made, local officers said, to care for a crowd of 100,000. On the side of Lynn Mountain, which is at the end of Elizabethton’s main street, a platform will be erected and tentative plaps will probably call for seats to be constructed the entire length of Main street, local officers sald today. o Men of Lithuania are just discarding suspenders and using belts.
