THE TVEXTNG STAR. WASHINGTON, D T. THURSDAY. DRECTVRET 0o 1997, ‘140 FISCAL PLAN Chevy Chase Group Urges © Enactment of Zihiman Bill Into Law. A plea for a return to the 60-40 basis of Federal and District Government fiscal relations was made by Edwin 8. Hege, member of the Citizens' Ad visory Council, in presenting resolu- tions which were adopted by the Chevy Chase Citizens' Association, meeting in the E. V. Brown School, Connecti- cut avenue and McKinley street, last night, urging that the Ziliman bill now before Congress be enacted into law. Mr. Hege commended the general features of the bill, especially the pro- posed of Senators, and citizens, whic the basis upon which the fiscal rela- tions would be establis He pointed to the large are le property being withdrawn from xation and declared that the District’s only hope of maintaining a municipal is in the enactment of the Zihiman bil! Resolutions were adopted appealing to the Public Utilities Comm of the District and of Maryland rt any effort of the Che mac Telephone Co. to_increase tele- phone rates in adjacent Maryland com- munities. William Y. Brady, delegate to the Federation of Citizens' Associa- tions, in presenting the resolution, said community _development would be affected by this step and urged instead that cit tes and service be extended to all contiguous developed territories for an area of greater extent. ¢ Plans for the first community Christmas tree celebration ever to be held in the Chevy ( se section were announced by H. V. Schreiber. The tree will be lighted Saturday night on signal by flare lights sent up at the national Christmas tree on Sherman Circle. The affair is being conducted e Woman's Club, i it all churches of the community. Lewis Radcliff offered a resolution, which was adopted, urging the open- ing up and paving of New York ave- nue from First street northeast to the || Bladensburg road: also Fifteenth street northeast from Rhode Island to New York avenue. He pointed out that establishment of these two thorough- fares as arterial highways would be invaluable to the city. Action was taken requesting the opening of Nebraska avenue from Rock Creek Ford road to Daniels road. Narrowness of Daniels road with re- sulting traffic congestion and the need for additional entrances to Rock Creek Park, were stressed in making this re- quest. It also was urged that Ne- btaska avenue be placed in reasonably passable condition from Connecticut avenue to Rock Creek Ford road. == FROM apeake & Poto- | S T e 3 | The Iron Hand.
