[P eiaent and Mrs. Coolldge and | their guests heard sixteenth and sev- enteenth century music played for the first time by artists on rare old Italian | violins, violas, cellos and double basses from the Rodman Wanamaker | collection, this being the first time ! the famous collection was ever loaned 'for a private concert. The instru- ments used were fine specimens of the | handicraft of Stradivarius, Montag- | nana, Guadagnini, Amati and other | noted Iuthiers of the seventeenth and centuries. The program was modeled after those given by the | private orchestras of the courts and | nobles of those centuries and contained rare old MSS., which were performed last night for the first time in 200 ars. One was a work by Domenicio | rlatti (arringed by Malipiero, the | Itallan composer), and the others were compositions by Thomas Tompkins and V centur covered last Summer in MSS,, form in | the Bodleian Li ¢ at Oxford Uni ve and espt arranged for the concert last night by Canon E. H. Fellowes, the noted English authorit on Elizabethian music, who is director of music at Windsor Castle. It was | one of the most remarkable and inter- esting programs ever given in the mansion and received constant ap- plause, Mrs. Coolidge will receive a small group this afternoon at the tea hour. The Ambassador of Cuba and Senora de Ferrara will give a_tea this after- noon from 4 to 7 o'clock in the em- | bassy, when Miss Mary B. Pierce of Boston, house guest of the hosts, will sist them. Others assisting will be | the wives of members of the embassy staff. The Ambassador and Senora de Fer- rara will leave the middle of next week for their home in Havana in prepara- tion for the Pan-American Congress, which will open there January 16 and to which the Ambassador is a dele- gate. The tea this afternoon is the last of a series which the Ambassador and Senora de Ferrara will give until their return after the congress.
