GOEBEL MAY TRY - ATLANTIG FLIGHT Dole Prize Winner Says He Plans Trip in Plane of Own Design. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, November 3.—While Mrs. Francis Wilson Grayson's amphibian monoplane Dawn waited for a pilot to guide it in its fourth start for Copenhagen, a new entry In the transatlantic air adventure ap- peared in the person of Col. Arthur C. Goebel, winner of the Dole derby from California to Honolulu. Col. Goebel, who had been men- | tioned as a possible pilot for the Dawn, told a Bankers' Club luncheon of his plan to fly to Europe in a |8 Jmulti-motored plane to be directed | W by radio beacons located along his route, possibly in Newfoundland and Jreland. He said the plane would carry two or three engines and he built according to his own designs. Mrs. Grayson held tenaciously to her determination to cross the At- lantic in the Dawn, despite the three failures of the plane to function properly, and the resignation of her pilot, Wilmer Stultz. Mrs. Grayson denied she had made efforts to engage Maj. Clarence D. Chamberlain as pilot, because his participation in any flight would make it “an all-Chamberlin under- taking. She insisted the only airman she was considering for the place was Bernt Balchen, Fokker test flyer and co-pilot of Comdr. Byrd's America.
