Coming to New York after a ham- mer assault on Michael Phoropoulos, an employe of the New Jersey Auto- mobile Club at New: Block drank poison, slashed his w s and garrot- ed himself in an overflowing bathtub. A note sent Block to a friend prior to the suicide said that he had been *“double-crossed by some boot- Jeggers” and thought that he had kilied one of them. The note affirmed his love for his wife. Police intimated that Phoropoulos might have overheard Block discuss- ing plans for an elopement with a young woman. They said that Phoro- poulos might have threatened to use this information. - Phoropoulos was in a critical condi- tion and unable to account for Block’s attack upon him in Block’s automo- hile salesrooms.
