Our judgment is freely available —and soundly reliable E are enthusiasts on Washington realty as an investment. Its record is notably free from booms and their reactive depressions, which are the history of industrial centers. Government is the stabilizer here. The Capital City of the Nation—in fact, of the world—renders Washing- ton real estate fundamentally sound—with a natural and persistent upward trend as the city grows and demand multiplies. There is no question of “when” to buy real estate Washington. That’s the perpetual “NOW.” “What” and “where” to buy are the only questions to be con- sidered—upon which we can advise with an intelligence born of intimate knowledge of intrinsic value; expand- ing possibilities; and available opportunities. Our office is recognized as a clearing house—where impartial opinion will be given; and serious and intimate service extended to every client—whether buying or selling. If you want to invest, we can guide you successfully. If you want to sell, we are in touch with ready capital— and can bring you quickly together—consummating a deal with equity to both. At your service—with “Maximum Service.” CKEEVERdGOS! 1415 K Street Main 4752 Maximu ervice . Admiral Dewey’s Homecoming CTOBER 3, 1899, is one of Wnshmgtons well remem- .bered gala days. The Battle of Manila Bay had brought fame and renown to Admiral Dewey, and upon his return in October the whole country was waiting to welcome him. A huge reception com- mittee had gone from Washington to New York to greet the Admiral, and he came to Washington on a special train. ‘As the train neared the District Line, a short stop was made, and Commissioner John B. Wright presented Admiral Dewey with a parchment, which offered him the freedom of the city. On arriv- ing at the station he was taken to the White House to be received by President McKinley and his Cabinet. The next day Admiral Dewey, in full navy regalia, with the President, followed by a wonderful military procession, was driven to the Capitol, where he was presented a handsome gold sword, which had been voted to him by Congress for his service and valor. It was a stirring and not-to-be-forgotten sight—the front steps of the East Portico were lined with sailors and marines from the Olympia—Dewey’s own ship—all wearing medals which Congress had awarded them in commemoration of the Battle of Manila Bay. The Secretary of the Navy, Mr. Long, delivered an address and then President McKinley presented the sword to Admiral Dewey, and thenthe benediction was pronounced by Cardinal Gibbdns. A State Dinner at the White House and a brilliant display of fireworks concluded the memorable celebration.
