BY EDWARD C. Monday will be house-warming day at the Bank of Commerce & Savings, Seventh and 15 streets northwest, when virtually a new bank will be opened to special public inspection. Hundreds of _Invitations have been sent out to patrons, bankers and busi- ness men to visit the new banking rooms at any time between 2 and 10 pm. President Maurice D. Rosen- berg and his official family will greet the guests and give them a look at the alterations that have cost $100,000, and been in progress since last May. o sweeping have been the changes that one would never recognize the new bank as having been evolved from the old one. For years the front had bay windows. They've gone. The new exterfor. with its handsome lime- stone appearance, smodernizes the building until it makes this business corner one .of the most attractive along Seventh street. The recent broadening of E street also helps to give the bank a very fine setting. Interior Is Transformed. The general appearance of the in- tevior is most impressive. Four stately Appalachian _ golden-veined marble columns_are first to attract attention. Standing on a corner, the building has splendid light, but the artificial lighting fixtures have been made a_special feature in elaborate- ness and beauty. The cages are most modern, convenient, and wholly of steel, and it is interesting to note that every unit is controlled by the person using it. The heavy window dra- peries have been chosen to harmonize with the marble and other appurti- nances. The customers’ desks are an- other Tobby feature, being of Egyp- tian design. On the main floor is also_a new private office for the cashier, John M. Riordon, and another office in the lobby more accessible to the public. A new mezzanine adds much to the bank’s floor space. The new directors’ room on the second floor is commodious and attractive. In - this room are the photographs of the offi- cers and members of the board. Bank Also Newly Furnished. No new fipancing is expected as result of acquisition of control by Stanley Co. of America and West Coast Theaters Co. of IMirst National Pictures, Inc. The arrangement, near- ing completion, is a co-operative move, which will involve no changes in pres- ent managements of the various com- papies and will require no immediate capital. The proposed $100,000,000 combina- tion will be effected by joint acquisi- tion by Stanley and West Coast of approximately 31,000 ares of the common stock of First National Pic- tures, which shares will be pooled. First National has a total of 60,000 shares of common stock. This merger will create the third great film-producing and theater-own- ing system in the United States. In face of predictions that business throughout the South would be seri- ously affected by the lower price of cotton, Southern Railway’'s freight revenie in January amounted to $8.- 000, as ‘against $8,328,000 in the initial month of 1926. A decrease of §336,000 in passenger revenue from the unusually high figures of January, 26, reflected the smaller travel in a compared with the abnormal passenger traffic a year ago. Smaller volume of freight traffic into Florida also accounted for the smaller earn- ings of Southern’s subsidiaries. Other Florida roads, such as Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard Alr Line, also reportad lower earnings in January. Bankers Issue Insurance Booklet. A comprehensive treatise on bank insurance, intended as a guide book for members of the American Bank- Association, has heen issued by its insurance committee, bringing out the coverage now enjoyed under the most dependable forms of contracts, including those copyrighted by the as- sociation. WHEAT GOES DOWN; CORN AND OATS EASY Favorable Crop Conditions in Southwest and Lower Liver- pool Prices Are Factors. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, March -Wheat tended downward early today in- fluenced by reports of favorable crop conditions in the Southwest and by Liverpool quotations lower than due. Besides, receipts at Kansas City continued of libefal volume. Starting unchanged to 3 down, wheat held near the initial range. Corn, oats and provisions also were easy, corn opening at 1 to % de- cline and later sagging a little more. Advices from a Chicago crop expert, who is touring Texas to observe fleld conditions for Winter wheat, said that from Sherman to Wichita Falls the soil is thoroughly soaked, that wheat shows a good stand and color'and is well stooled. The extreme molisture is not injuring wheat, he said, but the crop needs warmer weather to promote growth. Heavy arrivals of wheat at Liver- pool and likelihood of good sized de- liveries there were reported as re. sponsible for unexpected weakness of the market there. Relative strength of prices for wheat in North America were represented as being ignored.
