Features on Program. After an interval of general ball room dancing, the second number the program was announced, which was two sets of the Virginia reel Jed by ‘Mrs. Maud Gen. N. D. Hawkins, in which the ladies all wore the hoop skirts of the period of the sixties, with their part- ners in the Confederate uniform. The mecond set was led by Miss Fannie Dial, chairman of the debutante com- mittee, and Mr. Roy L. Neuheuser, chairman of the men's floor commil tee. Those dancing in this set were Miss Fannie Dial, Miss Helen Gatley, Miss Harriet S. Whitford, Miss Erica Pochon, Miss Georgiana Joyes, Miss Margaret Kerr, Miss Elizabeth Jabe and Miss Marie Ragsdale, all in period dresses, a modern adaptation of the style of the sixties, their partners being Mr. Roy L. Neuheuser, Mr. Dorsey W. Hyde, Mr. Asa E. Phillips, Mr. Conrad H. Syme, Mr. Samuel Syme, Dr. R. P. Dunmire, Mr. Ulrich Townley Richter and Mr. J. L. Pric At the conclusion of the Virginia recl a surprise feature was introduced when Miss Mildred Brown and Mis Jack Martin, dressed in darky co tume, burst sudde upon the scene supposediy from nearby darky quar ters. and to great applause, executed @ real Virginia cakewalk. which was one of the hits of the evening. At 11 o'clock there was staged the special feature of the ball, the “Dance of the Sixties,” arranged by Miss Gladys Wilbur. This was of great beauty and charm, and included two ensemble numbers by students of Miss Wilbur's studio and a solo by Miss ‘Wilbur, all danced to period music. The entire group of dancers were in the hoopskirts and pantalets of the “sixties,” and made a charming pic- ture, both in the dance numbers and in the posed background they formed for Miss Wilbur’'s solo, which was the feature of the evening’s program and which aroused great enthusiasm. Representative and Mrs. Montague, the latter the sponsor for the ball, had as guest of honor in their box Comdr. Richard Byrd of North Pole fame.
