ROOSEVELT BOOSTS DEMOGRATCANITY Joins With Randolph at At- lanta Dinner in Stressing Party First. By the Associated Press. ATLANTA, C Democrats were called on here tonight by Franklin D. Roosevelt and Hollins N. Randolph to place party above can didates in considering the Democratic presidential nomination who was floar le February 26 in the 1924 guest Mr. ¥ th forces nvention, was en by Democt honor the Geor zia de ion in : and one of the leaders for Wi McAdoo. Mr. Roosevelt has recently health re purchased Warm Spring the sort in Georgia, and Winter there. “This spent polit dinner in welcome dinner.” “If it were a po- | t with propriety a the Democratic party and declare that the time has a to the party itself than to pe ties, more to the principles the Demo. eratie party typifies than to the per sonnel of the candidates. with propriety declar should be made pro gressive and more abreast of the times, that old and archaic rules of nomination should be abolished and new rules adopted to prevent the pos- =ibility of another deadlocked conven- tion, such as we had at Baltimore, San’ Francisco and New York. And were the evening a political occasion 1 might declare that a pledge should be required of all candidates at the next convention to support the nomi nee without reservation, whoever the mnominee may be.” Mr. Roosevelt indorsed the declara- tions of Mr. Randolph. “*As Mr. Randolph has said,” he de- clared, “this is in no sense a political dinner, but it is a pleasure to hear his plea for the placing of principles before candidates in the councils of the Democratic party. When you come down to basic principles, there is very little difference between Demo- crats _in Georgia and Democrats in New York. For Cool Leadership. “Surely thinking people everywhere realize the great fundamental differ- ences between the two national par- ties, and unite in the hope that the Democratic party will present a mili- tant and united front in 1928. I am very certain that all candidates in the next convention will wholeheartedly support the platform and the nom- inees, and I am sure also that when the time comes cool leadership will prevent a long drawn out deadlock and bitter dispute over issues which, ‘while they may be in a sense national, are not properly party issues. “After all, Democratic success in 1928 depends first and last and all the time in winning over enough people who voted for Mr. Coolidge in 1924 to make possible a Democratic suc- cessor to him in 1928. I find the de- sire for unity of effort throughout this State, even as I find it throughout New York.” PARIS OFFERS WEALTHY 100 BOTTLES OF SCENT Qimited Rare Edition Is Newest Thought for Millionaire Mar- ket for Perfumes. The President and lidge paid a 20-minute visit to their temporary residence, the Patterson mansion, on Dupont circle, late yes- torday afternoon. 1t was probably | their "last trip there before moving in, as it is understood they expect to leave the White House about March 1. The President and Mrs. Coolidge had leit the Washington Cathedral after attending the wedding of Miss Rosamond Reed, the daughter of United States Senator David A. Reed of Pennsylvania, to Charles Denby, jr. Unexpected Stop. Most of their attendants had thought they Wwere en route to the re- ception at the Reed residence. As the cars rounded Dupont circle, however, the one carrying Mr. and Mrs. Cool- idge drove up the short private drive- way to the Patterson mansion and stopped. . The President and Mrs. Coolidge, accompanied only by their naval and military aldes and a secret service man, entered. They remained insid for 20 minutes, and upon leaving re- turned immediately to the White House. Mr. and Mrs. Coolidge made an in- | spection of their future home, visit- ing most of the rooms in the house and satisfying themselves that every- thing was practically ready for their occupancy. Both are understood to have appeared quite satisfied with the arrangements. All that now re- mains is the removal of their per- sonal effects in order for them to take up their residence. Attracts Attention. ‘The presence of the White House cars, their identity given away by the tell-tale National coat of arms on the doors, in the driveway attracted considerable attention and many per- sons waited in front of the home and over in the park at Dupont Circle for the couple to appear. Policemen kept street traffic moving swiftly, however, to prevent a jam when the President and Mrs. Coolidge were ready to leave. . Lieut. Col. Parker Reassigned. Lieut. Col. Austin A. Parker, U. S.
