L £1E DSTULERSFGHT OVERMOLASSES . Increase Use of Alcohol Lead ' to Trade War for Cuban By-product. By the Associated Press NEW YORK, February 24.—In. creased use of alcohol in this country has led to a trade fight between Amer- fean alcohol producers for control of the by-product molasses of Cuban sugar plantations, the Times says to- _Purchase of 2,800,000 gallons of mo- lasses in Europe by the National Dis- tillers Products Corporation and E. L. du Pont de Nemours & Co. s an- nounced by national distillers, the in pointing to indication: firms have turned to Ei rope to offset competition provided by other purchasers in Cuba. The ship- ments of European molasses are said to be the first to come here in years. The Dunbar Molasses Co., reorgan- ized In 1925 by interests formerly al- lled with a_company acquired by Na- tional Distillers, claims to have con- tracted for 40 per cent of the 1927 Cuban output, or about 100,000,000 gallons. National Distillers and the United States Industrial Alcohol Corporation, the Times states, are arrayed against the Dunbar Co. for control of the Cuban product. Rival interests declared that the shipments from Europe would not be profitable and that they were made as a gesture toward the ban pro- ducers, the newspaper says, but Na- tional Distillers officials asserted that oil tankers, which otherwise would re- turn empty from Europe, offer advan- tageous rates for molasses importa- tion here, 1,000 JUVENILE EDITORS TO ATTEND CONVENTION School Publications to Be Repre- sented at New York on March 11 and 12. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, February 24.—More th 1,000 boy and girl editors, rang- ing In age from 12 to 18 yea representing school publicati 43 states, Canada, Alaska, Hawail and the Canal Zone, are expected to attend the third annual convention of the Columbia Scholastic Press Associa- tion here March 11 and 12. ‘The student journalists have sub- mitted their publications in a compe. tition for 13 silver loving cups and certificates of honor. Papers written and edited by kindergarten children will be entered in a feature contest. Foreign language papers prepared by American students and trade journals also will be entered in the contests. The publications to be represented at the convention run into the hun- dreds and are of many different types. The greatest contrast is be- tween the Santa Maria, Calif., High School Magazine, published only in a single typewritten issue, and the Los Angeles High School daily, with a cir- culation of several thousa BANS TAX ON MINISTERS. North Carolina House Rejects $25 Levy on Itinerants. RALEIGH, N. C., February 24 (#). —A bill to tax itinerant ministers $25 A year was voted down by the lower house of the General Assembly. Rey. Oscar Haywood of Montgom- ers County, who introduced the meas- ure, declared that evangelists who came here from other ‘States and sometimes made as much as- $25u a week should be taxed. The bill was defeated after it was stated that the reputation of the State would not be helped by taxing minis- ters of the Gospel. Starved Bears Troublesome. Because of the pangs of hunger, the bears in Alaska have become so bold this Winter that Signal Corps men operating the extensive telegraph and radlo system at isolated stations in the Arctic region have found it necessary to maintain special guards to protect their food suppiies from the attacks of these half-starved animals. They are reported to be very numer- ous this season and so regular in their travels in search of food that they have made regular trails between the military stations, similar to those in the Far West in the days of the ploneers. — Thousands have got relief Sleepless With Pain of Rheumatis Now can sleep—do her work “I could not sleep or do any work, but now I sleep well, walk and do my work with ease. I used Sloan’s Liniment only once, and it relieved me of my pain. It is just wonderful.” This letter is typical of thout sands testifying to the amazing relief that Sloan's gives to every kind of muscular pain. . Sloan's gives real relief because it doesn’t just deaden the nerves. It stirs up the bodily forces to get rid of the trouble that is causing the pain. No need to rub; it's the medi- cine itself that does the work. Just pat it on. Instantly it sends the fresh, healing blood tingling through the sick tissues—and the pain simply has to go.
