Markham, #6 vears old, chief examiner of the design division of the United States Patent Office, died at his residence, 2217 First street, last night. after a long illness. He had been confined to his home since the early Fall with heart disease Judge Markham was horn in Ashta bula, Ohjo, December 10, 1860, receiv- ing his education in Valparaiso, Ind.. and Olivet, Mich. He resided in Eaton Rapids, Mich., for a number of vears, serving as city treasurer and city attorney there before coming to Washington in 1900, He was appointed to the Board of Pension Appeals in that year and was later transferred to the interference division. He has heen chief examiner of the design division for abhout 12 vears He was a member of the Michigan | Bar Association before coming to| Washington. He was an elder of Eckington Preshyterian Church, and in 1907 organized the Bliss Bible class of the Sunday school there and con ducted the class for 15 years.
