RETIREMENT PLAN PROBE IS SOUGHT Hudson Bill Asks Inquiry Into Administration of Pres- ent System. Investigation of the administration of the Civil Service retirement system 18 called for in a bill Introduced in the House late yesterday by Repre- sentative Grant M. Hudson, Republi- #an, of Michigan thveatigation by a commission of nfne members, three from the House, three from the Senate and three to be agpointed by the President—one repre- sdnting the executive departments, ofe representing the foint conference on retiiement, and the last an out- er, who is an expert on insurance. An’ appropriation of $10,000 for the expenses of this investigation would De authorized, the members of the dommission serving without pay. Mr. Hudson explained that the pur- gofe of the investigation is to get to the real facts regarding the so-called Bberalization bill passed in the last Sestion of Congress, which the em- Ployes contend is far from being fair &nd equitable. They contend that the maximum annuity of $1,000 is %60 low, and that some employes are etmpelled by the law to contribute to the fund a much larger amount than others. This latter complaint has been confirmed by Government offi- cials. The financing of the retire- ment fund is especially burdensome on the higher paid employes, it is argued. The proposed commission s to de- termine the proportion paid into the fund by the employes and by the Government. A law has just been passed by the municipaiity pro- viding for payment of from 10 to 30 per cent of the annual house rent of all families with four or more minor children. It places a definite premium on large families, Consul Calvin M. Hitch told the Commerce Department today. Familles with less than four children. receive no contribution .toward payment of rent, while families with four or more chil- dren and a total yearly income of not more than 2,500 francs, re- ceive 30 per cent of the vearly rental, provided the maximum shall not exceed 350 francs. Other payments are made in graduated scales, according to the family income. The law, according to Consul Hitch, expressly provides that thesé contributions are not to be considered as charity and are not subject to selzure and attachment. An estimate places the rent con- tribution from the cantonal gov- ernment at 100,000 francs a year. Only a portion of the 3,544 fami- lies in Basel-City having four or more minor children will benefit by the rent contributions, since many of them have incomes in excess of the maximum allowance. ASKS $10,000 FOR CRASH. Plumber Sues for Alleged Injuries Sustained in Collision. Alleging personal {njuries as the result of a collision between an auto mobile owned by Clifton James and Adelaide P. James and his automobile, Joseph L. Bateman, plumber, of 1602 Rhode Island avenue, filed suit for $10,000 in the District Supreme Court yesterday. Through Attorneys Emer- son and Hinman, plaintiff alleges that the collision took place last August 30, at Fifteenth and Harvard streets, through the fauit of the defendant. — Ordered Here for Duty.
