Atkinson, once Gov- ernor of West Virginia and for many years associate justice of the Court of Claims. He was born in Charleston, W. Va., was graduated from West Virginia University and Nashotah House, Nashotah, Wis., and was ordained deacon and priest by Right Rev. Isaac Lea Nicholson, Bishop of Milwaukee, in All Saints’ Cathedral, Milwaukee. After !Pr\lny: for a time as curate fo St. Mark's Church, Philadelphia, and the Church of St. Mary the Vir- gin in New York, he hecame rector of St. Matthew’s, Sunbury, Pa., from which church he came to Washing- ton about 18 years ago. Dr. Atkinson has been rector of St James’ Church since November, 192: Before that he was assistant at St. Paul's Church, rector of Grace Church, Georgetown, and rector of the Church of the Incarnation. During the World War he served overseas as chaplain in the American Expeditionary Forces. CHEVY CHASE BAPTISTS TO EXHIBIT HOME BOOKS Church Will Display Literature at Services Tomorrow in, Connection With December Observance. The Chevy Chase Baptist Church, in its special plans for emphasis upon the “home" during the month of De- cember, will have on display tomorrow devotional books suitable for the quiet period and the family altar. The pas- tor will preach upon “Home, Sweet Home.” An illustrated sermon will be given at 8 p.m. entitled “Bethlehem Town.” It will be based upon the story of Phil- lips Brooks’ famous Christmas hymn, “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” Pic- tures fllustrative of the hymn will be shown, with a short address by Mr. Clark, the pastor. George Fraser, superintendent of the Sunday school, has appointed com- mittees to plan for a Christmas social to be given during Christmas week, and for a white-gifts-for-the-King’s service to be given December 26. Al organizations of the church, as well as individuals, will participate in the latter service. A special Christmas morning service is also being planned to be held at the church. The Lutheran Church of the Atone- ment, Rhode Island gvenue and North Capitol street, is completing final ar- rangements in organization for its campaign to raise $150,000 to bufld the new church. Edward Volland is the chairman of the building commit- tee, which has been planning for the past year. The finance committee is headed by L. Frank Nye. The members of the congregation have been organized into groups who will, in turn, be directed by Dr. F. H. Divine of Brnnldyn, the director. H. P. Caemmerer, superintendent of the Sunday school, has offered money prizes for the best ‘‘pep song” writ- ten by a member of the Sunday school. These prizes. will be awarded next Sunday.
