Dun and Co.'s, inselvency index is a little higher this week, which is not unusual for the middle of October. It continues, however, to compare favorably with a year ago and is considerably below the five-year average. Proportioned to the number of firms in business the index for the first half of October was at a ratio of 925 whereas it was 92.8 a. year ago. Last vear the index for October was 89.2, while five-year average 192123 was for that month 103.8. CALLS FIRST PREFERRED. Yarns:were steadier. About 5,000,000 pounds of tire fabrics were sold. Finished goods were bought in small lots for immediate and nearby shipment. Raw silk was easier.
