Erected at a cost of approximately £500.000, the new building. which ex- tends the north wing of the quadran- ESTATE. versity. In addition to the new struc- ture the historic North Hall, bulit be- fore the plans for the National Capital were laid out, has been extensively renovated. Eight Lecture Halls Added. Besides providing additional accom-’ modations for 220 students at the Hilltop, these two structures also add eight large lecture halls for the relief of conditions long congested. One of the features of the new building is an assembly room, with a seating ‘capac- ity of about 500, equipped with a stage for private theatricals or public meetings. g The new ‘building is fireproof throughout, the only woodwork being the doors and window sills. It con- forms architecturally with the old} North Hall, and was designed in con-} - | formity with plans drawn up by the Rev. Charles W. Lyons, S. J.. presi- - | dent of Georgetown, who carried out successfully a recent building pro- gram at Boston College. Space for R. 0. T. C. Unit. Space is provided in the basement for the R. O. T. C. unit, with offices, } drill hall, equipment rooms and a rifl: A central new building at the extreme west end. This not only will prove ‘more eco- nomical, but also more serviceable. The exterior of the ola North Hall has been changed but little, but its worn floors and weakening walls have been fortified by stone and steel con- struction. In every respect it is made to conform to the new structure, into which it opens. Formal dedication exercises will be held at the university as soon as all the departme; operation.
