Partial returns from the communi- ties in the Bethesda area of Mont- gomery County, Md., contiguous to the District, show contributions of nearly $13,000 to the fund now being’ raised for the establishment of a modern fire department in the suburbs of the National Capital. No commu- nity has made its final return, and, though fiying squadrons are at work in all sections, some of these have made no returns as vet to the trustees actively directing the campalign. It is confidently believed that bhefore next week will have passed more than $25,000 will have been raised for the establishment of the much desired fire protection for the heretofore prac- tically unprotected area. The District of Columbia yesterday filed suit to rgcover $10,000 damages from Charles II. Myers, a contractor, of 649 Maryland avenue northeast, and the Maksachusetts Bonding and Insurance Co., under a bond given by Myers to insure the clearing by him of the site of the new junior high school, between Fourth and Fifth, B and F streets northeast, The property had been occupled by the Washington Brewery Co. and the Alhambra Cafe, and when Myers had progressed to a certain portion of the buflding, it is claimed, he declined to proceed farther and the District had to ask for new bids. The completion of the work cost $10,000 and the bonds- man is being asked to pay. HUDSON, Wis., June 17.—A Ku Klux tent was burned after a meet- ing which ended in commotion 2 miles east of here Mond: night when several hundred men ested agalnst alleged anti-Catholic utterances made by a lecturer.
