Officer of the Oldest ; Inhabitants. John B. McCarthy, 78 years old, veteran newspaper man and_soldier, Aled at Garfleld Memorial Hospital today after a lingering filness. He | had been suffering with heart disease for the past 18 months. Mr. MeCarthy was corresponding secretary of the Association of Oldest {Inhuhmm- of the District of Colum- bia, with which organization he had heen intimately associated since organization. He also had been a member of the Soclety of Natives of the District of Columbia since it was founded several years ago and was a veteran of the Civil and Spanish-American Wars, Once \Wrote for the Star.
