With Unlted States Steel common restored to leadership. the whole market as- sumed an air of more confidence than it has at any time since the culmina- tion of the downward movement in the early part of May. The entire list in one degree or an- othar took part in the upward move ment. As United States Steel on large transactions got up over 1wo points comething like the enthusiasm of the market of November. and January was reawakened. Independent steel| shares joined in the advarice —Cwucl | le. Sloss Sheffield, Guif States, Re public Iron & Steel and Bethlehen. The motors were not as conspicuous as they have heen. but they were atrong. Mack Trucks. in which spe clal buying has been going on for the last week, was in demand again. White Motors 1an up over a point. Nash Motor and General Motors went along. in the railway section the upward arift was general. Atchison, above 140 on rumors of increased divi dends. was one of the prime features. NEW YORK, May 28 (#).—An in- dependent ticket favoring Southern deliveries was placed in nomination vesterday on the New York Cotton Exchange in opposition to the regular ticket on which Samuel T. Hubbard, jr.. was named for president. The new ticket, which is headed by Edward M. Weld. former president of the ex- change, contains the names of four other former presidents. Nomination of an {independent ticket, the flrst in years, resulted solely from the difference of oplnion as to whether or not the exchange should adopt Southern deliveries.
