EXTENGION VOTED BY SENATE Bill Authorizing Construction Through Walter Reed Grounds Goes to House. The Senato this afternoon passed without debate the bill to permit the extension of Fourteenth _ street through the Walter Reed Hospital reservation, with the stipulation that street car tracks will not be laid and that heavy trucks with solid tires shall not pass through the hospital | rounds. !” The Senate accepted the modifica- { tion made by the Senate District com- mittee permitting motor busses to go through the reservation when the street is extended. The measure must still be acted upon by the Iouse. Legislation to open up that im- portant thoroughfare has been before Congress for several years, but has failed of action up to this sesslon because of the reluctance of Walter Reed officials to agree to the open- ing of the street without restric- tions. Farly in the present sesrion the District Commissioners and members of the Senate and louse District committees conferre representatives of the hospital, the result that an agreement reacked whereby streer s and heavy trucks would be barred from that part of the street and that regu- | {lation and control 5f traffic within | { the limits of the reservation would | | be under the supervision of the hos- | pital authorities, and with the fur-j ther understanding that ‘he prade | of the street through the hospital grounds shall be subject to the ap- proval of the Secrel “ar. The bill passed by the Senate aldo authorizes the closing, for the benefit of the hospital development, all of the streets that would pass through the reservation except Fourteenth street and Aspen street. The bill authorizes»an appropria- tion out of the revenues of the Dis- trict to pay the necessary expense of the condemnation proceedings and for the payment of the award as dam- ages in connection with the extension [of the street. | ROBBER SUéPECT DIVES |~ THROUGH GLASS DOOR Attempting a dash for fresdom, Willlam H.
